Welcome to Kestrel Class.

About us:

The teaching staff in Kestrel class are Miss Jane, Mrs Bunt and Mrs Commons. A thank you in advance from us for your continued support with your child's learning.

The term ahead:

We have a very exciting and enriching curriculum planned for the term ahead. Our topic up until Christmas is 'Space and Time' (see curriculum leaflet below). During the term we will be exploring pictures from NASA and creating our own list of items we would take to space.

We continue to focus on reading in Kestrel class, and ask that children read as often as possible. The children are welcome to write in their reading records, we just ask that you initial to say you have heard them read. Only initialled home reads will count towards the weekly five reads total. We have taken care in supporting the children to select a book suitable to their reading capabilities and they are encouraged to return this when they have finished the book so that the teaching staff can support them in choosing another book. Kestrel class will need to bring their reading books and reading records to school daily in order for in class reading to take place. We try to promote a love of reading in Kestrel class and encourage pupils to use the book swap and class library to choose books to take home to share with you at home.

Spellings will be sent home for children to learn on a Monday and in class assessment using a range of forms will take place a Friday.

It is important that pupils practise their timetables at home as well as at School. In school we use a range of different strategies to support pupils to learn their times tables and corresponding division facts. The children all have a log in to TimesTableRockstars which can be accessed both in school and at home.

Set task - The children have homework books and are set a homework task (this varies and can be maths, English or topic based) on a Tuesday to be returned the following Monday. These tasks are linked to current learning or learning that needs revisiting.

PE Kits:

Kestrel class will require their PE kits on a Wednesday.

We will continue to use this for parental contact.
Recognition Board:
Across the school we are using 'Recognition Boards' where children are recognised for achieving the focus e.g "Show my class that I am ready", "Put my hand up".  For those who achieve the recognition for the lesson, day, week they are awarded a class praise.
Our Learning
Until Christmas our learning is about Space and Time. Kestrel Class will be learning about planets, light and sound. They will be learning mapping skills to locate places in North and South America, Europe and Russia as well as Human and Physical features.
In computing Kestrel's will be learning about using a camera, e-Safety and blogging. Whilst RE will be teaching about Hinduism. DT will be designing and making a torch. In Art the class will be creating silhouettes with Space as their inspiration.
A very busy and exciting term ahead along with some festive cheer after the half term holiday.
