About us:
The teaching staff in Kestrel class are Miss Jane, Mrs Bunt and Mrs Commons. A thank you in advance from us for your continued support with your child's learning.
The term ahead:
We have a very exciting and enriching curriculum planned for the term ahead. Our topic up until Christmas is 'Space and Time' (see curriculum leaflet below). During the term we will be exploring pictures from NASA and creating our own list of items we would take to space.
Homework:
We continue to focus on reading in Kestrel class, and ask that children read as often as possible. The children are welcome to write in their reading records, we just ask that you initial to say you have heard them read. Only initialled home reads will count towards the weekly five reads total. We have taken care in supporting the children to select a book suitable to their reading capabilities and they are encouraged to return this when they have finished the book so that the teaching staff can support them in choosing another book. Kestrel class will need to bring their reading books and reading records to school daily in order for in class reading to take place. We try to promote a love of reading in Kestrel class and encourage pupils to use the book swap and class library to choose books to take home to share with you at home.
Spellings will be sent home for children to learn on a Monday and in class assessment using a range of forms will take place a Friday.
It is important that pupils practise their timetables at home as well as at School. In school we use a range of different strategies to support pupils to learn their times tables and corresponding division facts. The children all have a log in to TimesTableRockstars which can be accessed both in school and at home.
Set task - The children have homework books and are set a homework task (this varies and can be maths, English or topic based) on a Tuesday to be returned the following Monday. These tasks are linked to current learning or learning that needs revisiting.
PE Kits:
Kestrel class will require their PE kits on a Wednesday.
Dojo:
We are currently working on our 8 Times Tables - this is the children's favourite song at the moment.
Building on our success with the 8 times table song we have started to use this 4 times table song in class.
We all enjoyed using this video to learn our Roman numerals in the Autumn term.
